eTrap is a smart Android app designed to help forest officials and wildlife teams monitor animal activity, manage traps, and respond to safety threats — all in real time. Built specifically for the needs of conservationists and field workers in Pakistan, it turns smartphones into powerful wildlife tracking tools. From tracking wild boars in remote areas to logging captured species data and alerting teams instantly when a trap is triggered, eTrap brings smart automation and modern tech to the heart of field operations — with an interface that’s simple, fast, and built for the outdoors.
Working with wildlife and rural field environments meant we had to think carefully about a few things: Remote Connectivity: Many forests have weak or no internet, so the app needed to work offline and sync later. Real-Time Trap Alerts: Forest teams needed immediate alerts when a trap was triggered — even in the middle of the night. GPS Accuracy in Tough Terrain: Trap locations had to be precise, reliable, and viewable on an easy map layout. Multi-User Access & Security: Multiple team members needed different access levels while keeping sensitive environmental data secure. Language & Accessibility: The app needed to support local languages for broader on-ground usability.
We focused on building a tool that’s reliable, responsive, and rugged enough for real-world forest use: Native Android Build in Kotlin: Developed for speed, smooth performance, and full control over hardware like GPS. Smart Trap Dashboard: Designed a clean, map-based dashboard so users can easily see trap locations and statuses at a glance. Instant Alerts with FCM: Integrated Firebase Cloud Messaging for immediate push notifications the moment a trap is triggered. Offline Functionality: Ensured the app can log data and perform key actions without needing constant internet, syncing automatically when back online. GPS Tracking & History Logs: Added features to track every trap event, with detailed history logs for transparency and reporting. Cloud Backup & Role-Based Access: Used Firebase Firestore for secure, real-time sync and created user roles for admins, field staff, and observers. Bilingual Interface: Included multi-language support to ensure field teams can use the app comfortably in their preferred language.
