Project overview

The context behind Barraq.

Barraq is a smart access and parking management app designed to simplify how residents, guests, and facility teams handle gate entry and vehicle access. Whether you're living in a gated community or managing access to a business complex, Barraq makes it easy to control who comes in and out — all from your smartphone. With real-time updates, secure QR code entry, and admin-level controls, Barraq replaces old-school manual systems with a modern, efficient, and contactless experience tailored for Saudi Arabia’s growing smart infrastructure needs.

Creating a reliable access control app came with a few important challenges: Secure Gate Access in Real-Time: We had to build a solution that syncs instantly with physical gates and parking barriers without delays or failures. Visitor Convenience and Control: Residents needed a fast and simple way to approve guest access without involving a guard or front desk. System Compatibility: The app had to integrate smoothly with a variety of IoT-enabled gate systems already installed at different properties. Admin Oversight: Property managers required full visibility and control over all entries, exits, and permissions in real time. Localization for Saudi Arabia: Arabic language support and local UX preferences were essential for adoption and usability.

We built Barraq with a focus on speed, security, and ease of use: Native Android App (Kotlin): Developed for fast, reliable performance across a wide range of Android devices. Real-Time Access Engine: Used Firebase and Firestore to sync permission data instantly across users and gate systems. Custom QR Code Generator: Enabled secure, time-limited QR codes for both residents and visitors to access facilities contact-free. Gate System Integration: Built APIs to connect with physical gate hardware and IoT systems already used in Saudi compounds and commercial sites. Admin Control Panel: Created a dedicated dashboard for facility teams to manage multiple sites, approve or deny access, and track activity logs. Arabic + English Support: Delivered a fully bilingual interface for seamless experience by both native and expat users. Push Notifications & Alerts: Integrated instant alerts for guest arrivals, entry requests, and successful gate access events.
